ripping mp3's using aspi in XP

Post by Crackercrumbsbrell » Wed Jun 18, 2003 1:58 PM

can anyone help me with this, I installed ASPI drivers but my program still will not let me use them, it wants me to rip in analog which requires me to listen to the whole thing praying it doesn't skip.

btw I use audiocatalyst 2.1 which will not let me run under win98 compatibility mode.

Is it free? I've messed with quite a few encoders and I always end up back with Lame. Ogg isn't a bad format, but until the portable players start using it there's no point in keeping two sets of data around.

Audiocatalyst was not free and as for musicmatch...not a chance.

I will try the other 2 though and thanks for the feedback.
My buddy also suggested Yamp which I have yet to try yet.

I bought AudioCatalyst a long time ago too. At the time it seemed like a good idea, but I didn't know much about MP3 encoding. The encoder they use is really really bad. I ripped all my CDs again with EAC and they sound much better.

ok Tried Yamp.
Not gonna happen, it doesn't support Cddb.

and I can't for the life of me figure out that EAC one and it looks like Lame is exactly what it says.

I love Audiocatalyst and i love having all my cd's on my pc but I guess I'll have to get another PC running 98 to do it:(

oh another note. I use the cddb to make the track titles and create the ID3's for the tracks. It's so i can read all the info on the car stereo :)

EAC supports CDDB and Lame is the best MP3 encoder available. Sorry you couldn't get it working.

Also check to see that your cd rom has a digital audio cable and not the standard audio cable going from it to your sound card.

Media player doesn't rip to MP3 for free.

You don't need any audio cable going to your CD drive to rip music from it. It's ripped as data.

MusicMatch's quality is HORRIBLE compared to EAC/Lame. CDex is acceptable too, but EAC is a lot better and secure mode can't be beat. For an introduction to all of this, visit hydrogenaudio.org.

PS. All the cool kids encode using alt presets for Lame. The even cooler ones encode in Ogg Vorbis or Musepack.
